Mounjaro (tirzepatide) Injectable is a prescription medication designed to manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes and aid in weight loss management. Mounjaro is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It works by enhancing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon levels, slowing digestion, and regulating appetite. This combination helps improve blood sugar control and promotes weight loss.
Mounjaro is indicated for people with a BMI over 30 or a BMI over 27 with additional weight-related health concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol or PCOS.
