Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy: A SwiftDoctor Guide
Educational Purposes only; Not medical Advice -
You can switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy - but only if deemed safe and appropriate by our clinical team.
Please note there is no equivalent dose between Mounjaro and Wegovy but we can advise a safe starting dose.
Here's what to expect and how we’ll support you:
Key Information at a Glance:
• Both medications are part of the GLP-1 receptor agonist class, helping with weight loss by reducing appetite and slowing gastric emptying. Mounjaro also targets GIP receptors, offering dual benefits.
• A minimum seven-day gap between your final dose of Mounjaro and your first dose of Wegovy is typically advised.
• Your Wegovy starting dose will be personalised based on your previous Mounjaro dosage and your tolerance, to minimise side effects while maintaining momentum in weight loss.
• Switching is optional and must be supported by a clinical assessment. Wegovy may be selected because it's generally more affordable, better tolerated, or simply aligns better with personal preference.

Potentially depending on your personalised consultation if you are on 15mg or 12.5mg then starting at a higher dose of 1.7mg may be an option if the clinician feels this is appropriate. For 10mg and 7.5mg then starting at 1mg may be an option. For 5mg the clinician may recommend 0.5mg and for 2.5mg then starting at 0.25mg may be an option. The decision to prescribe off-label is down to our prescribing clinicians after a consultation.
• After your consultation, if you’re approved:
o We’ll issue your Wegovy prescription.
o You’ll discontinue Mounjaro.
o Your Wegovy delivery will arrive discreetly—remember to refrigerate it.
o You’ll resume your weight-loss journey with Wegovy.

Stopping Mounjaro - How It Works
• Don’t halt Mounjaro until you’ve received approval from our clinical team.
• Once confirmed, wait at least seven days
Starting Wegovy
• Begin Wegovy at least seven days after your last Mounjaro dose.
• Use your weekly pre-filled pen - inject into your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm on the same weekday each week.
• Refrigerate Wegovy upon receipt.
Your Initial Wegovy Dose
• Your starting dose depends on your previous Mounjaro dose and guidance from your prescriber - not always the lowest dose.
• This ensures a smoother transition with reduced side-effect risk while maintaining effectiveness.
What Changes When You Switch?
Some noticeable differences:
• Pen priming: Wegovy only needs priming before the first injection—unlike Mounjaro, which requires priming every time.

Our clinical team will consider your treatment history and preferences to tailor your journey.
