Wegovy is a GLP-1 medication that mimics your natural hormones to help reduce hunger and support sustained fat loss. Now available in tablet form, it offers the Semaglutide, same active ingredient, as the Wegovy injection, without needles.

Strength

The tablet form offers a convenient alternative for patients who may prefer not to use injections. Treatment is started gradually and increased over time to help improve tolerability and reduce the risk of side effects.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost?

SwiftDoctor prices Wegovy tablets from £109 a month at the starting 1.5mg dose, rising as you move up through the 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg strengths.

Who can have the Wegovy tablets?

Alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, Wegovy tablets may be prescribed for adults who have:

  • A BMI of 30 or above (obesity), or
  • A BMI between 25 and 30, with at least one weight-related health condition

All prescriptions are subject to a clinical assessment to determine suitability. A SwiftDoctor clinician will review your BMI, medical history, and current medications during your online consultation to confirm whether Wegovy tablets are right for you.

Switching from Wegovy injections to Wegovy pills

If you are currently taking Wegovy 7.2mg, it may be possible to switch to the 25mg tablet. The tablets may not achieve the same weight loss outcomes as the most effective injectable treatments currently available. However, studies suggest they can deliver weight loss results similar to those seen with Wegovy 2.4mg injections at the highest 25mg dose. For many people, it may offer a more convenient option, particularly for long-term weight maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you start your weight loss journey.

What is the difference between the Wegovy tablet and injection?

The main difference is how the medication is taken. The Wegovy tablet is taken once daily, while the Wegovy injection is administered once weekly. Both treatments contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, and work in the same way to support weight loss.

consultation and have your suitability assessed by one of our clinicians before treatment can be

How much does the Wegovy pill cost?

SwiftDoctor prices Wegovy tablets from £109 a month at the starting 1.5mg dose, rising as you move up through the 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg strengths.

Are Wegovy pills effective?

Yes. Wegovy pills contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication that has been shown in clinical studies to support significant weight loss when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It works by helping to regulate appetite, increase feelings of fullness, and reduce food cravings. Results vary from person to person, and treatment is only prescribed following an online consultation with a clinician to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you.

How do I take Wegovy tablets?

Wegovy tablets should be taken once daily on an empty stomach with no more than 120ml of water. The tablet should be swallowed whole. After taking your tablet, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than water, or taking other oral medications. This helps ensure the medication is absorbed properly.

How does the Wegovy tablet work?

The Wegovy tablet contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in Wegovy injections.

Semaglutide works by targeting receptors in the brain that regulate appetite and fullness. It helps reduce hunger and food cravings, slows stomach emptying, and helps you feel fuller for longer after meals. Over time, this creates the calorie deficit needed for sustainable weight loss.

What is the Wegovy pill dose?

Wegovy tablets are available in four strengths: 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg. Treatment starts at the lowest dose and might be increased gradually to help your body adjust and reduce the likelihood of side effects. Some patients may remain on a particular dose for longer than four weeks if their prescriber feels this is appropriate.

The full treatment effect is typically achieved once the maintenance dose of 25mg is reached.

What are the ingredients in the Wegovy tablets?

The active ingredient in Wegovy tablets is semaglutide. Wegovy tablets are available in strengths of 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg, and 25mg.

The tablets also contain the inactive ingredients magnesium stearate and salcaprozate sodium, which help support the formulation and absorption of the medication. For a full list of ingredients, please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your medication.

How should Wegovy tablets be stored?

Store Wegovy tablets at room temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C. Keep the tablets in their original bottle to protect them from moisture. Store in a dry place and avoid exposing the medication to excessive heat or humidity.

What are the most common side effects of Wegovy tablets?

The side effects of Wegovy tablets are expected to be similar to those seen with Wegovy injections. The most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥5%) are nausea, diarrhoea,

vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dizziness and flatulence.

Side effects are usually most noticeable when starting treatment or increasing your dose and often improve as your body adjusts. SwiftDoctor clinicians can advise on managing side effects and make adjustments to your treatment plan if needed.

What level of support is offered while I am taking Wegovy tablets?

The SwiftDoctor clinical team is available throughout your treatment to answer questions, monitor your progress, and make any adjustments to your prescription. All support is provided online, with no need for in-person appointments.

Can I switch from Wegovy injections to Wegovy tablets?

Our SwiftDoctor clinicians will advise whether switching is appropriate for you and provide personalised guidance on how to do so safely.

What happens if I miss a dose of the Wegovy tablet?

If you miss a dose of Wegovy, skip the missed tablet and take your next dose at the usual time the following day.

Do not take an extra dose or double up to make up for a missed tablet.
