Description

Rybelsus contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist taken as a once-daily tablet. It works by reducing appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and improving blood sugar control. It is licensed for type 2 diabetes and is also used off-label for weight management in suitable patients. Rybelsus helps reduce hunger, food cravings, and overeating when combined with healthy dietary and lifestyle changes.

Warnings

Rybelsus is licensed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. When used for weight management, this is considered off-label use. Off-label prescribing is permitted in the UK where a qualified prescriber determines that it is clinically appropriate and in the patient’s best interests. Suitability for treatment will be assessed on a case-by-case basis following a full medical review.

Rybelsus is not suitable for everyone. It should not be used if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Caution is required if you have severe gastrointestinal disease, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, or significant kidney impairment. Rybelsus is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Always disclose your full medical history and current medications before starting treatment.

Directions

Take Rybelsus once daily on an empty stomach immediately after waking. Swallow the tablet whole with a small amount of water, no more than 120 ml. Do not split, crush, or chew the tablet. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other oral medications. Take it at the same time every day for best results. Dose escalation should follow your prescriber’s instructions.

FAQs

Rybelsus must be taken on an empty stomach to ensure proper absorption. Taking it with food or other medications can significantly reduce its effectiveness.

Weight loss varies between individuals and depends on dose, diet, and lifestyle. Appetite reduction is often noticed within the first few weeks.

If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose the following day. Do not take two tablets to make up for a missed dose.

Alcohol can be consumed in moderation, but excessive intake may worsen side effects such as nausea or low blood sugar in people with diabetes.

Rybelsus can be used long term if it remains effective and well tolerated, subject to regular clinical review.
