What is Cyclizine?

Cyclizine is an antihistamine anti-sickness medicine. It is used to prevent and treat nausea (feeling sick), vomiting and dizziness, including motion sickness and sickness caused by conditions affecting the inner ear, such as vertigo.

How does Cyclizine work?

Cyclizine blocks histamine signals in the part of the brain that controls vomiting, and reduces sensitivity of the inner ear balance system. This helps to stop the messages that make you feel sick.

How to use Cyclizine

The recommended dose is one tablet up to three times daily.

Possible side effects

If you notice:
• itching or skin rashes
• swelling of the face, lips or throat
• difficulty in breathing or wheeziness
stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately. These may be signs of an allergic
reaction.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Cyclizine Hydrochloride Tablets if
you:
• suffer from an eye disease caused by a rise of pressure within the eye (glaucoma)
• suffer from urinary retention (experience difficulty passing urine)
• have an obstructive bowel condition
• have any liver problems
• suffer from phaeochromocytoma (tumour of the medulla of the adrenal glands)
• suffer from high blood pressure
• have epilepsy
• are a man and you suffer from an enlarged prostate gland (difficulty or slowness passing urine)
• have been told your heart is not working properly (heart failure)
• suffer from an inherited disorder which can lead to a sensitivity to sunlight (porphyria).

Cyclizine Hydrochloride Tablets contain the active substance cyclizine hydrochloride, which
belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines which can be used to help stop you feeling
sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting).

When should I take Cyclizine for travel sickness?

Take your first dose 1 to 2 hours before you travel. You can take further doses during the journey if needed, following the instructions on the leaflet.

Will Cyclizine make me drowsy?

It can. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel sleepy, and avoid alcohol while taking it.

How many tablets can I take in a day?

Adults usually take one 50mg tablet up to three times a day. Do not take more than three tablets in 24 hours.

When should I seek medical advice?

Speak to a doctor if vomiting lasts more than a day or two, you cannot keep fluids down, or you have severe headache, stomach pain or signs of dehydration.
