How Does Microgynon 30 Work?

A woman gets pregnant when an egg from the ovaries gets fertilised by a sperm. Every month during ovulation, an egg is released. Progesterone and estrogen hormones control the process. Microgynon 30 contains two synthetic hormones, levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol. These hormones hinder ovulation. The pill also thickens the fluid in the cervix to prevent the sperm from reaching the uterus. During menstruation, the uterus walls build up in readiness for fertilisation. Microgynon 30 reduces the buildup, decreasing the chances of the fertilised egg developing into an embryo.

How to use Microgynon 30

Use the medication following the guidance of your healthcare provider and after reading the instructions:

  • Take one tablet daily at the same time for 21 days.
  • After finishing the pack, take a 7-day break before starting the next pack.
  • It is advisable to take Microgynon on the first day of your period. If you forget to take the pill, take it immediately as soon as you remember.
  • If you miss one day, you are still protected.
  • For multiple days, you are supposed to use additional contraception for seven days.
